Confirmation, Reception and Reaffirmation

What is confirmation?
Confirmation is a public confession of the Christian faith and a mature commitment to the baptismal vows. The bible describes Jesus’s Apostles laying there hands on those who had already been baptized so that they might receive the Holy Spirit. (Acts 8:14-17) In confirmation, the bishop acts with Apostolic authority and prayerfully lays his hands on those who are to be confirmed. Through confirmation God strengthens or increases the work of the Holy Spirit so that we might be equipped and empowered for the Christian life and ministry.
Reception and reaffirmation?
Reception is for those who have made adult professions of faith in other Christian traditions. The Bishop prayerfully lays hands on those seeking reception in recognition that they are members of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. Reaffirmation is for those who have previously been confirmed of received who are returning to active Christian discipleship after a lapse, experiencing a renewal of Christian commitment or have gone through a significant life transition. The act of reaffirmation renews the pledges made to Christ and his Church with prayer and the laying on of hands by the bishop.
